User Research
User research is regularly conducted to investigate the efficiency, satisfaction and possible side effects of DermaCura eczema clothing. Recent research involving 155 patients shows a statistically significant efficiency of the treatment when DermaCura eczema clothing is used in combination with ointment therapy.
Most patients (79%) experience an improvement through the use of DermaCura eczema clothing in combination with an ointment and / or cream.
Justification for research
DermaCura eczema clothing is part of the treatment for eczema. The treatment consists of, among other things, good information, lifestyle changes, lubricating with emollient and / or corticosteroid-containing ointments and creams and the use of a dressing pack.
DermaCura eczema clothing is a Class I medical device and must comply with European rules such as Post-Market Surveillance (PMS) and a Post-Market Clinical follow-up (PMCF). In summary, it means that clinical data must be continuously collected and evaluated during the life cycle of DermaCura eczema clothing. Of course, the risk class of the product is taken into account. The risks of a Class I medical device, such as DermaCura eczema clothing, are small.
Previous PCMF studies focused on the substance properties of DermaCura. Hohenstein Laboratories in Germany has analysed the relationship for seven substance properties, including softness, smoothness, temperature and moisture-regulating properties. In addition, various laboratory analyses have been done with human skin cells to show any skin-irritating properties of DermaCura eczema clothing. The result was that human skin cells did not respond to extracts from the crab dressing. The final conclusion is that DermaCura has a good wearing comfort and has no skin-irritating properties. 1,2,3 As an additional PMCF, DermaCura also regularly conducts a user survey, the results of which we present to you on this site. The purpose of such a consumer research survey is: to investigate the effectiveness and safety of DermaCura eczema clothing; detect unknown side effects; detect and analyse emerging risks based on facts; to identify and improve any shortcomings of DermaCura eczema clothing.
Research method
This user research survey was a quantitative study, in which a paper questionnaire was sent to 659 parents / users of DermaCura eczema clothing. This questionnaire could be completed and returned anonymously. The number of returned questionnaires is 155 (23.5%). The patients represent a homogeneous group of patients:
patients with moderate to severe constitutional eczema;
no patients with other skin disorders; the choice of treatment was in consultation with specialist / specialised nurse: combination therapy consisting of ointment and / or cream and DermaCura eczema dressing.
Research has shown that the sequence of questions influences the answers given. This is caused by the better concentration and attention of the “filler” at the start of a questionnaire. That concentration decreases during the investigation. That is why the most relevant questions about efficacy and complaints were placed at the start of the study. The simpler questions about, for example, age and gender are at the end of the study. Most questions from the user survey are closed questions of the type strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree. These are answers from the Likert scale. 4.5
Statistically, it is an ordinal scale with a ranking. The distance between the successive grades has no meaning. The score in ordinal numbers may therefore be 0, 15, 30, 40 and 50, but also 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Exceptions on the Likert scale are the questions about age / gender and the open questions about, for example, how long DermaCura is used and whether the clothing is used in combination with ointment and / or cream.
